Privacy Policy

Effective date: 7 August 2026

Brass Hand Studios ("we", "us", "our") operates the website [brasshandstudios.com](https://brasshandstudios.com) (the "Site"). This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, you can contact us at alex@brasshandstudios.com.

1. Who we are

Brass Hand Studios is a video production studio based in Bristol, working with clients across Bristol, Cardiff, Bath, and further afield. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

2. What data we collect

We collect the following types of personal data:

a) Information you give us directly

When you use our [contact form](https://brasshandstudios.com/contact) or email us to enquire about our services, we collect the information you provide — typically your name, email address, and the contents of your message (which may include details about your project, business, or organisation).

b) Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, some technical information is collected automatically via cookies and similar technologies, including:

  • Your IP address

  • Browser type and device information

  • Pages visited, time spent on the Site, and referring pages

  • General location (derived from IP address)

This is collected through:

- Squarespace, our website hosting and platform provider, which sets essential cookies needed for the Site to function.

- Google Analytics, which we use to understand how visitors use the Site (e.g. which pages are popular, how people find us). Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this data.

We do not currently sell products or services directly through the Site, and the shopping cart feature is not in active use — if this changes, we will update this policy to reflect any payment or shipping data we begin to collect.

We do not currently operate an email newsletter or marketing list.

3. How we use your data

We use personal data for the following purposes:

| Purpose | Data used | Legal basis |

| Responding to enquiries and discussing potential projects | Name, email, message content | Legitimate interests (to run our business and respond to enquiries) / Steps taken at your request prior to a contract |

| Understanding and improving how the Site is used | Analytics data (via Google Analytics) | Consent (via cookie preferences) |

| Keeping the Site secure and functioning correctly | Technical/essential cookie data | Legitimate interests |

We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties.

4. Cookies

Our Site uses cookies set by Squarespace (necessary for the Site to function) and Google Analytics (to help us understand visitor behaviour). Non-essential cookies, such as those used for analytics, are only set with your consent. You can control or withdraw your consent to cookies at any time through your browser settings or, where available, via a cookie preference tool on the Site.

For more detail on how SquareSpace and Google handle data via cookies, see:

5. Who we share your data with

We share limited data with the following third parties, who process it on our behalf or as independent controllers:

- Squarespace (website hosting, contact form processing)

- Google (via Google Analytics, for website analytics)

Some of these providers may process or store data outside the UK/EEA, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure your data remains protected.

We may also link to our social media profiles (Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn). If you click through to these platforms, their own privacy policies apply — we don't control how they handle your data.

We will not otherwise share your personal data except where required by law, or to protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of others.

6. How long we keep your data

We keep enquiry data (from the contact form or emails) for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to you and manage any resulting business relationship, and afterwards only as needed for legal, accounting, or record-keeping purposes. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default retention settings unless we configure this differently.

7. Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

- Access the personal data we hold about you

- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data

- Request deletion of your data

- Restrict or object to how we process your data

- Request a copy of your data in a portable format

- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent (e.g. analytics cookies)

To exercise any of these rights, email us at alex@brasshandstudios.com. We'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at [ico.org.uk](https://ico.org.uk) or by calling 0303 123 1113.

8. Children's privacy

Our Site and services are intended for businesses and adults, not children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we start new data processing activities (such as an online shop or newsletter). Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
